STAR Kids Books & Brushes

Our newest class combining literature and art! Each class will begin with a literature component featuring a particular genre and focusing on oral language, reading comprehension, and listening comprehending. Kids will complete an art project using the literature read and discussed as their subject.

Projects include directed drawing and painting, crafts, collages, and a variety of other art mediums. 

***This week our STAR Kids (3rd-5th grades) will explore Poetry Painting which combines the art of poetry with painting. Our focus will be: following directions, poetry, directed painting, reading and listening comprehension. We will learn about different types of poetry, read a variety of poems, and craft a poem together. We will then complete a directed painting representing our poem we crafted. This is always a fun adventure because we don’t know ahead of time exactly what we will be painting! Although beginning steps are directed, children will have the opportunity to make their painting unique and their own as they decide how to finish their painting.

**Please wear clothing that is ok to get paint on or bring a shirt to cover up to protect clothing. 

***There will be 45 minutes of class followed by 15 minutes of play time in our sensory friendly gym.
